A busy man has time for everything

We had an amazing meeting on October 6th, 2011 at Beach Luxury. Meeting was presided over by Madam TM Dr. Avan and Madam TM Neel observed the Toastmaster’s pledge. Roles were performed by TM Maneckji as the Toastmaster, TM Tauseef as the Topicmaster and TM Farid as the General Evaluator. Theme of our meeting was the ‘Power of Persuasion.’ TM Adnan also donated our club a banner with new logos of Toastmaster International and Professionals Toastmasters.

Induction ceremony of our newly registered members was held. The newly registered members included TM Khalid, TM Nadym, TM Tahir, TM Adnan, TM Jaan, TM Ibad, TM Neel and TM Panjwani. TM Ibad, TM Nadym and TM Tahir were unable to join us. Madam TM Dr. Avan observed the oath. TM Iqbal Bakshi was asked to present our new members with pins. Our Immediate President, TM Fahim, presented our members with Manuals. And Vice President Education, TM Shahrukh, assigned mentors to our new members.

The team of the General Evaluator included TM Jaan Ali as the Timer, TM Fahim as the Ah-Counter, Madam TM Avan as the Grammarian, TM Neel as the Vote-counter and TM Iqbal Bakshi as the Word-master. Word of the day was ‘Wishful.’ Speech evaluators included TM Panjwani for the speech of TM Khalid and Madam TM Dr. Avan for the speech of TM Adnan.

The core idea that surrounded all the table topics was ‘Persuasion.’ TM Bakshi was asked to persuade the audience as the presidential candidate. TM Panjwani was asked to persuade the audience to join his profession. TM Neel was asked to persuade everyone that books are the best sleeping pills. Madam TM Dr. Avan spoke about day dreaming. TM Shahrukh was asked to highlight good points about a persuasive speech. TM Fahim persuaded to watch football. And TM Jaan was asked to persuade for banning eating and text messaging. Hammad, who is a child with hearing impairment, was asked to introduce himself.

There were two speeches in the prepared speeches session. First speech was delivered by TM Adnan. He presented his Project eight from the Competent Communicator manual. The title of his speech was ‘Think 360.’ He shared with us some tips:

1) Take a good shower daily,

2) Play any sports and do exercise,

3) Manage and decorate your office or room,

4) Nature is the best source of pro-activity,

5) Always try to draw something on your notebook,

6) Make a list of mistakes,

7) Buy gifts for your spouse,

8) Get up early to welcome the sunrise,

9) Visit a gallery or a museum,

10) Notice kids and talk to them and

11) Become MAD

He ended his speech by saying that, ‘a busy man has time for everything.’ He also said that be happy, be curious and think 360.

The second prepared speech was delivered by TM Khalid. He also presented project eight from the Competent Communicator manual. The title of his speech was ‘Traffic Signs.’

His speech was about traffic signs. He started with a humorous line on traffic sign about related to buffaloes. He explained us the history of traffic signs. He told us that there are three categories of traffic signs:

a) Mandatory signs,

b) Warning Signs and

c) Informatory signs.

He ended his speech by saying, “safe drive and stay alive.”

Winner for the Table Topics session was TM Fahim and TM Shahrukh was the runner-up. Winner of the Prepared Speeches session was TM Adnan and TM Khalid was the runner-up.

The venue for our next meeting is not going to be Beach Luxury. The Professionals Toastmaster club is invited by our Vice President Public Relations TM Khalid to hold its meeting at his office. The meeting will start at 6:45 p.m.
