our first loyalty is to ourselves

The Professional Toastmasters Club held its first meeting on September 15^th, 2011 at Beach Luxury Hotel. It was our first congregation after the holy moth of Ramzan. The theme of out meeting was, ‘the purpose of life.’

Toastmaster for the evening was TM Fazal and he started the meeting by telling us that our first loyalty is to ourselves. He also shared with us a story related to the use of a Body Language on a wrong person. Table Topicsmaster was Madam TM Dr. Avan. General Evaluator was TM Shahrukh. And Maneck was the Evaluator for the Table Topics.

Tauseef and Azam Lagari attended the meeting as our guests.

Multiple roles were performed by the members in the meeting. TM Farid performed the roles of the Timer and the Vote-Counter. TM Maneck performed the roles of the Word-Master and the Ah-Counter. TM Chandna performed the duties of the Grammarian.

Nine speakers were called on the lectern to speak by the Table Topicsmasster. An item was assigned to the speaker and he was asked to convince the audience to buy that particular item. Every speaker tried to sell the assigned item in his own style which was really entertaining. TM Shahrukh was asked to sell a body cream. TM Nadym was asked to sell a bottle of Ovaltine. TM Farid was asked to sell a lip-bam. Green-Tea was given to TM Aqeel. Shampoo was the item for TM Jaan Ali. TM Ibad sold us a nail polish. And TM Panjwani sold to us a box of tissues. Our guest also demonstrated courage and participated in the session. TM Tauseef sold toothpaste and TM Azam was given a packet of Noodles.

There were three speeches in the Prepared Speeches session.

First speech was presented by TM Punjwani. He was evaluated by Madam TM Dr. Avan. He presented his project two, the Radio Talk Show, from the Public Relations manual. The title of his speech was “Aga Khan University and Hospital.” TM Shahrukh performed as the radio show host.

Second Speech was delivered by TM Nadym. He was evaluated by TM Aqeel. He presented his fifth project, Your Body Speaks, from the Competent Communicator manual. The title of his speech was “Body Language-myth or fact.”

The last prepared speech was presented by TM Shahrukh. He was evaluated by TM Farid. He presented his fifth project, the Humorous Speech, from the Humorously Speaking manual. The Title of his speech was, “what to do and what not to do.”

The winner for the Table Topics was TM Ibad and TM Nadym was the runner-up. The winner for the prepared speeches was TM Nadym and TM Shahrukh was the runner-up.

The members of the Professional Toastmasters Club are expanding their horizon. The Illuminators Welfare Association (TIWA) is founded by TM Neel with TM Jaan Ali and Hera Minan. They were joined by TM Aqeel, TM Haris, TM Farid and TM Shahrukh and their friends and family members with many other people who volunteered to spend a day at Sahara Village: for old age people and special children. Our members used their communication skills to good use by becoming their friends and making their day very special.
