how to speak when you have nothing to speak

We had a wonderful time. Our meeting was on May 26th, 2011, at Beach Luxury Hotel. The duties of Sergeant-at-Arms were performed by TM Khalid and presiding officer of the meeting was TM Fahim. TM Shahrukh performed the role of Toastmaster of the Meeting. Table Topics Master was TM Shabbir and General Evaluator was TM Ibad. Table Topics were evaluated by TM Bakshi.

Roles were performed by TM Adnan as the Timer, TM Fahim as the Grammarian and the Vote Counter, TM Neel as the Ah-Counter and TM Aqeel as the Word-Master. The word of the day was ‘Resilience.’

There were ten speakers in the Table Topics session. TM Dr. Avan, DTM Fazal, TM Ibad, TM Khalid, TM Neel, TM Adnan, TM Iqbal and TM Fahim. TM Sajad shred a joke while Mr. Nadeem was our guest speaker. TM Khalid also took an initiative and spoke against the topic of DTM Fazal. Topics included ‘how can we avail opportunities’, ‘laughter is the best medicine’, ‘happy moments’, ‘how to speak when you have nothing to speak’ etc.

There were three speakers who performed project five- ‘Your Body Speaks’ form the manual ‘Competent Communication.’ They were TM Khalid, TM Aqeel and TM Adnan. TM Khalid and TM Aqeel evaluated each other but TM Adnan was evaluated by TM Fahim. DTM Fazalur Rahim presented his project ten-‘Inspire Your Audience.’ He was evaluated by TM Bakshi. TM Dr. Avan presented project two-‘Poetry Interpretation’ from the advance manual ‘Interpretative Reading.’

The titles of the speeches included ‘setting for goals’ by TM Aqeel, ‘leadership’ by TM Khalid, ‘if’ by TM Dr. Avan, ‘your future is in your hands’ by DTM Fazalur Rahim and ‘think different’ by TM Adnan.


Winner of the Table Topics was TM Dr. Avan. TM Bakshi was the runner-up. Winner for prepared speeches was TM Khalid. Runner-up was DTM Fazalur Rahim.

never consider the possibility of failure

Our meeting on May 19th, 2011 was a wonderful event. The time of the meeting was 6:30. It would seem that because of the terrible traffic jam we would not be able to conduct our programme but the determination and dedication of our members made it all possible. Meeting was started by our Sergeant-at-Arms by observing the Toastmasters pledge. Our meeting was presided over by our President TM Fahim.


TM Aqeel performed the role of Toastmaster of the Evening. Table Topic Master was DTM Fazalur Rahim and General Evaluator was TM Haris. Table topics were evaluated by TM Sajjad.




In table topics session, very interesting topics were assigned to the speakers. There were total nine speakers who were asked to speak on Helen Keller, gem can’t shine without friction, importance of goal, success is a journey and not a destination etc. Speakers who were asked to speak in this session were TM Jaan Ali, TM Shahrukh, TM Haris, TM Neel, TM Sajjad, TM Aqeel, TM Shabeer, TM Ibad and TM Khalid.



There were five prepared speeches. First speech was by TM Ibad. He presented his Ice Breaker from the Competent Communicator manual and his evaluator was TM Shahrukh.

Second speaker was TM Khalid who presented his project four: ‘How to say it’ from the Competent Communicator manual. His speech was evaluated by TM Fahim and the title of the speech was ‘Life Goes On.’

Third Speech was presented by TM Shahrukh. He presented project four: ‘Read Out Loud’ from the advance manual: 'Specialty Speeches' with the title ‘Dark side of knowledge.’ His speech was evaluated by TM Sajjad.

Fourth speaker in the prepared speeches session was TM Fahim. He presented the bonus project from the Competent Communicator manual: ‘The entertaining speaker.’ The title of his speech was ‘lost in translation’ and his evaluator was TM Haris.

Fifth speaker of the day was TM Shabeer. He presented project two: ‘Organise Your Speech’ from the Competent Communicator manual. The title of his speech was ‘Entrepreneur’ and his evaluator was TM Khalid. He presented ten tips for being a good entrepreneur:
1) think success
2) be passionate about what you do
3) focus on your strengths
4) never consider the possibility of failure
5) plan accordingly
6) work hard
7) constantly look for ways to network
8) willingness to learn
9) perseverance and have faith
10) Discipline yourself

The roles were performed by TM Haris as the Timer, TM Khalid as the Grammarian, TM Jaan Ali as the Ah-counter, TM Shabeer as the Vote-Counter and TM Sajjad as the word master. The word of the day was ‘Responsibility.’ Tm Sajjad also presented his observation that even when a chosen word is very simple, speakers will still forget to use it.



Winner for the Table Topics Session was TM Sajjad and TM Ibad was the runner-up. Winner for the Prepared Speeches session was TM Khalid and TM Shahrukh was the runner-up.

Humorous Speech Contest

On May 12th, 2011, Professional Toastmasters Club organised a humorous speech contest. The venue was Beach Luxury hotel and time was 6:00 p.m.

The Contest Master was TM Fahim and Toastmasters pledge was observed by TM Izhar. Contest Judges included TM Iqbal Saeed, TM Raffiuddin Hayder, TM Iqbal Bakshi and TM Zia PAracha. TM Nazir Vaid was the Chief Judge. TM Mehmood performed the role of Timer.

Speakers were informed of the ground rules and it included time limit of five to seven minutes, considering the content, speech development, effectiveness, delivery style, body language etc.

There was a funny sketch presented by TM Dr.Avan and TM Maneckji after the first speaker of the contest.

Following is the list of names of speakers and their speech titles:

a) TM Hera: Why do I lie? I am running out of reasons!

b) TM Adnan: Fear of wife.

c) TM Sajjad: Life sentence.

d) TM Suleman: make life fun

e) TM Shahrukh: the value of x and the love of y.

f) TM Khalid: Toastmaster Experience.

g) TM Shabeer: Should we act on consultant advices.

h) TM Fazal: Life is a box of chocolates.

Winner of the contest was TM Sajjad. TM Fazal was the first Runner-up and TM Khalid was the second Runner-up. The guests who attended the contest shred their opinion and presented an idea of holding such contests on regular bases.

simplest form of charity is smile

We had our last meeting on 5th May, 2011. The venue for our meeting was Beach Luxury hotel. Total 19 people attended the meeting out which three were guests. The time to start our meeting was 6:30 p.m.

The meeting was presided over by our President, TM Fahim. He said the best and simplest form of charity is smile. It is a valuable asset for a speaker and one out of 19 is bound to respond you with a smile in return.

Toastmaster of the meeting was TM Panjwani and Table Topics Master was TM Mansoor. General Evaluator was TM Sajjad and Table Topics Evaluator was TM Fahim.

Roles were performed by TM Mehmood as the Timer and the Vote counter, TM Khalid was the Gramarrian and TM Adnan was the Ah-counter. TM Dr. Avan was the Word-master and the word of the day was “destiny.”

TM Mansoor conducted the Table Topics session and asked everyone to answer by completing the line, “if I was…” Speakers enjoyed and responded well to the topics. TM Izhar explained us how to break a bad news to his father, TM Khalid had to choose between a million dollars and a beautiful girl, TM Muneer was asked to speak on, “If I was the boss”, and TM Ibad spoke on, “if a girl flirts with me.” TM Khalid even improved his topic and made it difficult for himself by saying that what if he has to choose between Angelina Jolie and million dollars.

In Prepared Speeches session, TM Dr. Avan presented her Project three from the advance manual Interpretive Reading and it was evaluated by TM Farid. The book chosen by her was “Pride and the Prejudice.” TM Shabeer presented his Ice Breaker from the manual Competent Communicator and it was evaluated by TM Izhar. He spoke about C.F.C. and told us that success comes from good judgment and good judgment comes from experience but experience comes from bad judgment. Third speech was presented by Haris and his project six was evaluated by TM Shahrukh. He spoke about mother. TM Aqeel presented his project four from the Competent Communicator manual. He spoke about success and the speech was evaluated by TM Fahim. Last speech of the day was delivered by TM Shahrukh and it was project three from the advance manual Specialty Speeches. It was evaluated by TM Farid. The occasion chosen by him was fund-raise and he spoke about Brailler.

Table Topics were evaluated by TM Fahim and TM Shames Tabreez was invited to speak for our Club.

Winner for the Table Topics session was TM Izhar and TM Khalid was the runner-up. Winner for the Prepared Speeches was TM Haris and TM Shabeer was the runner-up.

The boss's jokes are always funny

We had a wonderful meeting on April 28th, 2011. Our venue was Beach Luxury hotel and time of our meeting was 6:30 p.m. Our presiding officer of the meeting was TM Fahim and TM Haris was the Sergeant-at-Arms.

Toastmaster of the Evening was TM Khalid, Table Topica Master was TM Atif and TM Dr. Avan was the General evaluator. TM Bakshi was the Table Topics Evaluator.

The roles included TM Dr. Avan as the Timer, TM Tahir as the Grammarian, the Ah-counter and the Vote-Counter was TM Farid and Word-master was TM Sajjad. The word of the day was ‘diligent.’

Table topics session was amazing. Interesting quotes were presented with a little bit of their background. TM Hera was suppose to choose between hell and heaven for the sake of friendship, TM Farooq spoke about leader and confidence, TM Fahim explained that guests would smell after 3 days, TM Bakshi told us to forget our bad memories if we want to live a happy life, TM Nadeem Chandna made it clear that boss's jokes are always funny, TM Dr. Avan informed us about the soar throat, TM Haris made us realised that if man is not perfect then why practise and our last speaker was TM Farid who informed us that life is not at the other end of the cigarette but it is on T.V.












In middle of the sessions, videos of the Toasmasters champions were played for us to learn and improve our speaking. The title of our favourite speech was, ‘the sink full of green tomatoes.’




Prepared speeches were delivered by TM Mansoor (Ice-Breaker) who was evaluated by TM Bajshi, TM Aqeel (Project three from Competent Communicator Manual) who was evaluated by TM HAris, TM Jaan Ali (Ice-Breaker) who was evaluated by TM Fahim and TM Shahrukh (Project two from Specialty speeches) who was evaluated by TM Farid.

TM Nadeem Chandna was the winner and TM Haris was the runner-up for the Table Topics session. TM Shahrukh was the winner and TM Mansoor was the runner-up for the prepared speeches session. TM Bakshi was the winner and TM Farid was the runner-up for the best Evaluator.
